About Me
My name is Catlin Goodrow, and I love reading science! As a teacher and teacher educator, I've seen the power of evidence-based reading instruction first-hand. Unfortunately, far too many teachers never learn the science of how students learn to read. If they do learn the science, they may not know the practical, simple ways it can be implemented in elementary classrooms.

Yep, that's me, dressed as scientist extraordinaire, Princess Bubblegum.
I began my journey in education as a 2003 Teach For America corps member. After four years in the classroom, I jumped into a job I was totally unprepared for -- supporting K-3 reading teachers throughout the state of Texas. Since then, I have worked as a teacher and teacher educator, at school, district, and organizational levels. I estimate that I have visited hundreds of classrooms, and have seen literacy teaching of all kinds. On the way, I got my Master's in Teaching, with a concentration on teacher leadership, from Relay Graduate School of Education. I hope to share insights and best practices from my own classrooms, and from the teachers who have shared their time with me. |
Evidently Reading in the Media
- Achieve The Core's blog, Peers and Pedagogy, published my post, "Research-based AND Responsive: Putting the science of reading to work for the kids in front of you" (Goodrow, 2023), on how I use research-based principles to plan instruction.
- I was interviewed for this article in The Hechinger Report: "Proof Points: Third graders struggling the most to recover in reading after the pandemic." (Barshay, 2022)
- 650+ teachers and other educators signed this open letter advocating for a turn away from instructional methods that are not based in solid evidence. The letter was co-authored by lead author Callie Lowenstein, myself, and several other educators who have connected through Twitter. (Lowenstein, et. al. 2022)
- I was interviewed in this piece about schools' efforts to address pandemic learning loss (Dao, 2021).
- Evidently Reading was featured Melissa and Lori Love Literacy, the podcast! Click here to check out the episode. (Loftus and Sappington, 2019)
- Not related to literacy, but important to my heart: I was interviewed for this article: The School-to-Deportation Pipeline (Dillard, 2018)
